We always support designer Derek Lam, the San Francisco native, not just because he’s “folks,” but because he transforms classic American designs into unique statement pieces. We ESPECIALLY support him when those pieces are on sale. Spring into action, and check these crazy sales.

A Pop of Color
Keeping warm and colorful at the water shed.
After a few frigid winters in New York, it was time to update my winter regalia. This cardigan by Ralph Lauren (Denim & Supply) is cozy with an amazing shawl collar and colorful Navajo pattern. Perfect for intimate fireside conversations and warm enough for brisk evening walks to the market. The more I wear it, the more classic it becomes. The New Essential:
3.1 PHILLIP LIM
LEATHER JACKET
A leather jacket has always been on my wardrobe essentials list, but finding the one (that will end my search once and for all), has been quite the challenge. The ones I love are way over my budget and the more affordable options just aren’t good enough. The changing season offers opportunities to set sale alerts on such pieces, and while prices do drop, it’s never been tempting enough for me to make the move. eBay to the rescue! I’ve found many gems on eBay and this one tops my list of major scores. It’s still a splurge piece, but well worth the investment. The leather is buttery soft and the silhouette is the perfect harmony of edgy and just a little whimsical thanks to the subtle peplum details. Spring is already on my mind, providing inspiration for the outfit below. Cool, yet unbelievably comfortable.

After the Rain
Start Something
That Matters
Blake Mycoskie, the founder of TOMS shoes, begins his book, Start Something That Matters, with the classic poem “Success” by Elisabeth-Anne Anderson Stanley.
To laugh often and love much
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of childrenTo earn the appreciation of honest critics
endure the betrayal of false friendsTo appreciate beauty
To find the best in others
To leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social conditionTo know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
Personally, I have never worn or owned a pair of TOMS shoes. However, lots of my “cool” friends religiously buy TOMS and always brag on how they are saving the world with each purchase. Other than the motto, “Sell a pair of shoes today. Give a pair of shoes tomorrow,” I really knew nothing about TOMS.
This was about to change. Once I opened the book, it was hard to put down. Start Something That Matters is a fast and informative read. It gives us a better understanding and appreciation of Blake Mycoskie’s business and philosophy. His storytelling reminds us of simple truths that are necessary for success that we seem to forget in the hustle and distractions of our daily lives.
His book helped me simplify and focus on achieving my goals. Start Something That Matters is a great read, and a book I’ll most likely read many times over. “Highly recommended for those ready to make a difference.”
I still haven’t bought a pair of TOMS shoes yet, but I did get a pair of TOMS sunglasses. =)
