Blake Mycoskie, the founder of TOMS shoes, begins his book, Start Something That Matters,<\/a> with the classic poem \u201cSuccess\u201d by Elisabeth-Anne Anderson Stanley.<\/p>\n

To laugh often and love much
\nTo win the respect of intelligent people
\nand the affection of children<\/p>\n

To earn the appreciation of honest critics
\nendure the betrayal of false friends<\/p>\n

To appreciate beauty
\nTo find the best in others
\nTo leave the world a bit better
\nwhether by a healthy child,
\na garden patch, or a redeemed social condition<\/p>\n

To know even one life has breathed easier
\nbecause you have lived.
\nThis is to have succeeded.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Personally, I have never worn or owned a pair of TOMS shoes<\/a>\"\". However, lots of my \u201ccool\u201d friends religiously buy TOMS and always brag on how they are saving the world with each purchase. Other than the motto, \u201cSell a pair of shoes today. Give a pair of shoes tomorrow,\u201d I really knew nothing about TOMS.<\/p>\n

This was about to change. Once I opened the book, it was hard to put down.\u00a0Start Something That Matters<\/a> is a fast and informative read. It gives us a better understanding and appreciation of Blake Mycoskie’s business and philosophy.\u00a0His storytelling reminds us of simple truths that are necessary for success that we seem to forget in the hustle and distractions of our daily lives.<\/p>\n

His book helped me simplify and focus on achieving my goals.\u00a0Start Something That Matters<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0a great read, and a book I\u2019ll most likely read many times over. “Highly recommended for those ready to make a difference.”<\/p>\n

I still haven\u2019t bought a pair of TOMS shoes yet, but I did get a pair of TOMS sunglasses. =)<\/p>\n
